See nine black-and-white prints on Hahnemühle’s venerable cotton-based Photo Rag matte paper
I typically print on baryta surface papers, which feature a coating that gives a glossy or semi-gloss appearance. In this case, an interior design client specifically requested matte surface papers, which gave me an opportunity to a large selection of samples printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag.
Photo Rag is a cotton-based paper with an invisible ink-receiving layer on one side, which helps the paper manage crisp, sharp details and a rich tonal range that would normally be reserved for coated papers. While many matte surface papers feature blacks that are more like a dark gray, as you’ll see in the video, the blacks on Photo Rag are truly black.
