On location: Photographing Rusty Abandoned Trains

On location: Photographing Rusty Abandoned Trains

Quick note from the field

I spent my Independence Day poking around a railyard full of abandoned rusty trains. No one else was around — just me and a bunch of wasps.

I’m eager to see if I got any good images — the light was not generally in my favor.

Below are a few iPhone photographs from the location

Textures galore: I love photographing rich textures and detailed surfaces

Bonus: I found this abandoned treasure -- a wasp nest -- laying on the tracks. It came home for further photographic exploration later.

Rust and peeling paint on the side of one of the train cars. Eventually, the light softened enough to disburse those harsh shadows.
