We lost two giants of photography

We recently lost two greats of the photography world.

Robert Frank (1924 – 2019 – aged 94) was born in Switzerland but came to the US in the 1950s, where he photographed postwar America and published the seminal book “The Americans.” It became one of the most influential photography books ever, but was initially the object of ridicule and scorn. The Guardian reminds us of the reaction to the book: ‘A wart-covered picture of America by a joyless man,’ wrote the photographer and critic Minor White. ‘A sad poem by a very sick person,’ snorted Popular Photography.”

Peter Lindbergh (1944 – 2019 — aged 74) was a German fashion photographer who worked with a group of talented models and Vogue magazine to usher in the era of the “supermodel.” He helped launched the career of model Linda Evangelista. Here is a fantastic video about Lindbergh from Deutsche Welle.
