A Look at My First Large Print of the Abandoned Buildings of Seale, Alabama

Last year I published a video about this abandoned mini “ghost town” — a full city block of derelict buildings within the larger occupied community at Seale, Alabama.

You can watch that video here:

After visiting Seale, I painstakingly stitched together this panorama from individual photographs of these four buildings and I really enjoyed the final wide format image as a document that preserves the entire location before it’s gone.

This is the full-size original photograph of the abandoned block of buildings in Seale, Alabama

Truthfully, I never expected that anyone would ever buy a print of this scene, but to my surprise, I DID recently sell a large print of this photograph to a hotel in Houston.

Here’s a first look at the new print coming off the printer. You may notice that it was edited to crop out the Seale Post Office, as the client didn’t want the location to be identifiable.

The original four images were shot with the Fujifilm GFX 100S, and manually stitched in Photoshop.

The final print was cropped to 24-inches by 81.5-inches.

I’ve printed a few large scale projects on the Palo Duro Softgloss Rag now, and here are my impressions:

Specifics:

The camera used for this project was was the 100MP Fujifilm GFX 100S.

I shot individual photographs of the four buildings on this street, then stitched them together manually in Photoshop.

The final print was 24-inches x 81.5-inches on Red River Palo Duro Softgloss Rag baryta surface photo paper.
