Built in 1924, the iconic downtown Houston hotel had a recent remodel, which included nine of my photographs
In 2025 I had the pleasure of working with the new owners of the Sam Houston Hotel, an iconic 10-story hotel built in 1924 in downtown Houston, which is now part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton.
The owners were completing a remodel and wanted photographs for the lobby and adjoining billiard room. They were a delight to work with — decisive and responsive. Some projects can drag on for months, but with “The Sam” project, things moved along very quickly.
The result is quite beautiful. Join me for a look at my work now in the collection of the Sam Houston Hotel.

About the Sam Houston Hotel
The Sam Houston Hotel was named after General Sam Houston (1793 – 1863), who served as the Commander-in-Chief of the Texian army that helped secure the republic’s independence from Mexico. He served as the first — and again as the third — President of the Republic of Texas. He later represented Texas as a U.S. Senator and became the only person to act as Governor of two states — Tennessee and Texas.
Designed by the renowned Texas firm Sanguinet, Staats, Hendrick and Gottlieb, the hotel was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. It’s located one block south of the 1910 Harris County Courthouse.
In December, I used the opportunity of a previously-planned photo trip to the city to stop by and see how my work looked in its new home . . . and wow! I was very pleased.
The Keith Dotson collection of photographs inside the historic Sam Houston Hotel
I’m delighted to present these images of my work inside the Sam Houston Hotel.
The Lobby
The lobby hosts three panoramic photographs of abandoned places.

On the left is a large landscape photograph featuring an abandoned old pickup truck, rusting amidst tall grass and weeds.

The center panel features a very wide and slightly cropped portrait of a ghost town street of abandoned buildings discovered in the American South.

The right panel features a photograph of a dusty old piano found inside an abandoned church in a ghost town in the American South.
The Billiard Room
A beautiful billiard room containing six Keith Dotson photographs adjoins the lobby of the hotel. All of these framed photographs represent abstractions made from natural subjects.

Congratulations, Keith! Those prints are not just hung they’re well lit too! The hotel did well by your work. I can’t say much for the green wall treatment but the prints look excellent!
