Artist Proof: Real selenium toned black and white baryta print

Artist Proof: Real selenium toned black and white baryta print

One-of-a-kind artist proof print available for sale on Etsy

Black and white photograph of an antique 1950s Chrysler automobile that has been long since abandoned in the woods.

I’m now offering — for the first time — large format limited-edition prints on my main website. This is an 8 x 12-inch test print (artist proof) to check the effects of the selenium toning at the 1:9 dilution.

Artist proof: "Pride and Joy" by Keith Dotson. Selenium toned black and white silver gelatin print.

This is a unique, one-of-a-kind, artist proof of a black and white photographic print that has been chemically toned in the darkroom with selenium. Selenium toning very slightly alters the color and tones of a black and white photograph and makes it more archival and stable.

IMPORTANT: The actual color of the tones may vary slightly from the photograph, due to screen color profile variations. I’ve done my best to give an accurate representation of the print. Selenium toning is more subtle than sepia toning, and the color has been slightly enhanced here to illustrate the effect.
