Admiring the seed pods of the Goldenrain Tree, which look like paper lanterns
As an artist, I try my best to approach the world with the wide-eyed wonder of a child, but I’m constantly amazed at things that I walk past for years until suddenly I see them — and they appear before me as though they’ve never existed until that moment.
This is a tree I’ve never even looked at — but now I’m fascinated by it. It’s the Koelreuteria paniculata, more commonly known as the Golden Rain Tree, because of its yellow blooms that rain down to the ground.
In addition to the yellow blooms, it also grows these incredible lantern-like papery seedpods.
