I discovered this beautiful, historic, wooden Gothic Revival church while driving on a back road in southwest Alabama. This is St. Andrews Episcopal Church, built in 1853 – 54, in Gallion, Alabama (Prairieville). I’ve never seen a gothic building made out of wood before, including the buttresses. It’s a delicious and unexpected find, visible from the busy road that passes nearby.

In the churchyard, there’s a beautifully Victorian (and slightly creepy) graveyard. A sign on the perimeter fence surrounding the property identifies it as a 1930s donation.
