Podcast: About the Auction of 100-Plus Ansel Adams Photographs from the Arrington Collection

Ansel Adams super-fan and wealthy Texas oil executive David H. Arrington has auctioned more than 100 photographs from his collection

Photography enthusiasts and collectors can learn a lot about photographs (as well as the art and business of photography) from paying attention to auctions.

For example, the dedicated auction pages for the recent Sotheby’s auction called A Grand Vision: The David H. Arrington Collection of Ansel Adams Masterworks contain a wealth of information about each print. There’s much more to learn than simply auction prices.

The page contains a video interview of the collector, David H. Arrington, talking about the collection and why he is selling some of it. And for those wanting more intimate knowledge of the images, the site includes condition reports, sizes, provenance, and pictures of the photographs shown in a frame, as well as mocked-up on a wall for scale.

In the podcast, we will also learn a little bit about Arrington and why he decided to auction 123 photographs from his 650-plus collection.
