Based on a visit to South Wheeling, West Virginia in 2021, fine art photographer Keith Dotson offers a set of black and white photographs of the abandoned and historic architecture he found there. Dotson pairs the photographs with an extensively researched history of the city and many of the old buildings he shot in Wheeling.
The derelict abandoned Texas Longhorn Motel has been put behind a chain-link fence and demolition has begun. Watch my video visit to the motel made earlier in 2022.
I view the photography of abandoned buildings as a form of architectural preservation -- a memory of at-risk locations that are endangered from the threat of progress, being condemned, or collapse. Here's one that I missed.
